"My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience."
(James 1:2-3)
Life can feel like climbing a mountain - steep, exhausting, and filled with unexpected turns. In those moments of hardship, it’s tempting to wish for an easier path, a smoother mountain, a straight shot to the top without any of the struggle.
But here's the truth:
If the mountain was smooth, we couldn’t climb it.
The rough places give us something to hold onto. The jagged edges, the unexpected cracks, the uncomfortable textures - they're the very things that build our strength, deepen our faith, and shape our character. Without them, there would be no way forward, no growth, no testimony.
God never promised the climb would be easy. But He did promise to be with us in it. His grace is the rope that holds us. His Word is the foothold that keeps us steady. His Spirit is the strength in our legs when we want to give up.
So the next time you find yourself on a rough patch of the mountain, remember:
You’re not stuck - you’re climbing.
You’re not broken - you’re being built.
You’re not alone - He’s with you every step of the way.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the rough parts of the journey. Even when it’s hard, help me to see Your hand in every challenge. Give me strength to climb, grace to endure, and faith to believe that every jagged edge has a purpose.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
