Stand Your Ground - A Devotional By LeBron Keener

Stand Your Ground

"Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong."(1 Corinthians 16:13 KJV)The year was 1836. A ragtag group of Texan volunteers huddled behind the crumbling limestone walls of the Alamo, a former mission turned fortress in San Antonio. They were farmers, shopkeepers, blacksmiths - ordinary men who had drawn a line in the sand and chosen to stand for freedom. Among them were names history would remember - Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie, and William B. Travis - but most were simple men whose stories were never told. They were outnumbered, outgunned, and out-supplied by General Santa Anna’s massive Mexican army. But they had something more powerful than numbers: conviction. They believed in the cause of liberty, and they were willing to give everything - even their lives - for it.As the siege dragged on, Commander Travis penned a letter asking for reinforcements, but he ended with these words: “I shall never surrender or retreat... Victory or death!”Those defenders of the Alamo stood their ground, and though they were all killed in battle, their courage lit a fire that eventually led to the freedom of Texas. Their sacrifice was not in vain.Faith Reflection:We may never stand behind stone walls waiting for an army, but every believer faces battles. Spiritual warfare, temptation, fear, doubt - our enemies are real, even if they aren’t dressed in uniform.God calls us, like the Alamo defenders, to stand firm. Not in our own strength, but in His. When the enemy comes with lies, when the world pressures us to give up, when our faith feels small and the cost feels too great - that is when we must draw our line in the sand.Sometimes, standing firm means refusing to be silent about your faith. Sometimes, it means showing grace when it’s easier to lash out. And sometimes, it means just holding on, trusting that God is still working even when you feel surrounded.Victory may not look like what we imagined - but God never wastes a stand made in faith.Prayer:"Lord, help me to be strong and courageous, even when I feel outnumbered. When the battles of life surround me, remind me that You fight for me. Give me the strength to stand firm in faith, no matter the cost. Amen."Challenge:Where in your life are you tempted to retreat? Ask God to help you stand firm in that area today - whether it’s with your integrity, your witness, or your obedience.Remember:Your stand today could inspire someone else’s victory tomorrow. The Alamo fell, but its spirit lived on. So it is with the faithful.
