Stillness in the Storm - A Devotional By LeBron Keener

“It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”
(Lamentations 3:22-23 KJV)

The rain tapped gently on the windowpane like a quiet hymn, steady and sure. Inside, the house was hushed, wrapped in the warm scent of brewed coffee and the soft crackle of an old floorboard or two.

It was Saturday morning. No rush, no emails, no noise. Just the gentle rhythm of falling rain and the steam rising from a chipped ceramic mug.

Anna sat curled in the corner of the couch, blanket over her knees, staring out at the gray sky and dripping branches. The world looked like it was being washed - rooftops glistened, leaves bowed, sidewalks shimmered in puddles. It wasn’t the kind of morning for big plans. It was the kind of morning that makes you stop.

And in the stopping, she noticed something.

She felt… peaceful.

Not because everything in life was perfect. It wasn’t. The bills still waited. The to-do list hadn’t shrunk. But somehow, in that quiet moment, watching the rain dance and sipping coffee, she felt God whisper, “I’m here.”

Not in lightning bolts or fire from heaven, but in the hush. The still. The comfort of His presence in the middle of an ordinary, rain-wrapped morning.

Reflection:
We often think God shows up only in grand moments - miracles, mountaintops, or mighty breakthroughs. But sometimes, He just sits with us while we drink our coffee and stare out a rain-streaked window.

His mercies aren’t just reserved for Sunday altars or dramatic testimonies. They are new every morning, even on sleepy Saturdays with cloudy skies.

In the quiet, He restores. In the stillness, He reminds us: You are not alone. I am faithful.

Prayer:
"Lord, thank You for meeting me in the quiet places. In the small, unhurried moments, help me hear Your voice and remember Your faithfulness. Even when life feels gray, let my soul be washed with peace. In Jesus’ name, amen."

Challenge:
Take a few minutes this week to sit still. No phone, no noise - just you and God. Look out a window. Listen to the rain, the wind, the silence. Let it remind you: even on ordinary days, He is extraordinarily near.
