✝️When God Drops a Cross: A Devotional By LeBron Keener

"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will dine with him, and he with Me." — Revelation 3:20 (NKJV)

This is a true event that happened to a friend of mine.

It was just an ordinary Saturday. A man and his wife were shopping at Lowe’s, standing in the hardware aisle searching for hooks to hang potted plants. Nothing unusual. Nothing particularly spiritual about the moment.

But then, something happened.

From above—seemingly out of nowhere—a keychain dropped at the man’s feet. Not just any keychain. This one held a cross.

There was no one else around. No one nearby to have dropped it or thrown it. No explanation. Just a cross, landing gently, but purposefully, right in front of him.

He was unsure what to make of it at first, but the image of that cross lingered. It stayed on his mind all weekend. And by Monday morning, it was still with him—not in his hand, but in his heart.

Sometimes, God doesn’t shout. He whispers. He doesn't always part the seas or shake the mountains—sometimes He drops a cross in a quiet aisle to say, “I’m here. I see you. I’m calling.”

That keychain could’ve had anything on it—a football team, a cartoon character, a company logo. But it didn’t. It had a cross. A symbol of sacrifice, of love, of a Savior who still knocks at the doors of hearts.

Revelation 3:20 reminds us that Jesus is always near, always knocking, always waiting to be invited in. And when we listen—truly listen—we begin to notice the small, sacred moments where He is calling.

Maybe it’s a conversation. A song. A memory. Or maybe, like this man, it’s something simple but unmistakable. A cross at your feet.

Has God been trying to get your attention? What small moments have stirred your heart lately? Could they be His knock?

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for knocking on the doors of our hearts—even in the most unexpected places. Help us to hear You, to recognize the ways You are calling, and to open the door without fear. Let us not overlook the quiet ways You speak. Instead, give us faith to see You in every moment. Amen.
